The Future Erasmus Has at Pirates is Questionable

“The club is concerned because he hasn’t really played much,” a source said.
With his contract expiring this season, Orlando Pirates forward Kermit Erasmus’s future is in jeopardy.

This season, the seasoned attacker who signed a two-year contract extension with the Buccaneers in 2022 has only made six appearances in the DStv Premiership.

His time on the field has been limited by injuries; his most recent outing was in a league match versus Richards Bay in November of last year. Phakaaathi has learned that the club has not yet announced if it intends to start contract extension negotiations.

Ample of Options

“Kermit is regarded highly at the club due to his skill and experience, but the fact that he hasn’t played much is concerning the club,” the source said.

Due to injuries, the club is unsure if they would extend an offer to him for a new contract. If he recovers from his injuries in time for the season to end, there is still hope for him.

Now that (Tshegofatso) Mabasa is back and scoring, they have plenty of options. Additionally, they have Zakhele Lepasa and Evidence Makgopa up front.

The 33-year-old’s lone goal of the year came in the Carling Black Label Knockout victory over Spurs 2-0 in October of last year.
