The Gcaba Family Maintains the R800k Paid to Aka’s Murder Suspect Was for Solely Commercial Purpose

Gcaba family denies killing AKA

In a statement, the Gcaba family denied any role in Kiernan AKA Forbes’ murder.

One of the family’s taxi drivers, Sydney Mfundo Gcaba, was connected to the rapper’s and his companion Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane’s deaths.

During the trial, state prosecutor Advocate Elvis Gcweka stated that Gcaba’s business, Bright Circle, allegedly gave one of the suspects, Muziwethemba Harvey Gwabeni, more than R800 000 a day following the murder. The money was then divided among the suspects.

In a statement, the family acknowledged that money had been sent, but it had only been for business needs.

“There has been much speculation in the public domain about the reason for one payment that was mentioned by the prosecution since the name of our brother Mfundo Gcaba was recently mentioned in court in the murder trial of Mr. Tebello Montsoane and the late South African music icon, Kiernan Jarryd Forbes, popularly known as AKA,” the statement states.

“We recognize the seriousness of the current issue and the considerable attention it has attracted. We want to reaffirm our commitment to working together with all branches of government to achieve justice and to convey our unshakable faith in the South African judiciary.

“We would like to provide the following clarification in light of recent events and the accusations made against our brother, Mfundo: Mfundo is an adult and a prosperous businessman who works in a variety of industries, including the coal mining and taxi industries. It’s crucial to remember that he only conducted money transactions for business objectives with Mr. Gwabeni. Bank data can be used to confirm that these numerous transactions over an extended period of time were not singular nor isolated.

The statement goes on, “We urge that this opportunity be extended to him at the earliest convenience because we believe in the principle of fairness and the right to be heard.”

It’s important to realize that Mfundo has told the family he is not involved in any unlawful activity and that he has no desire to do so. His business dealings are honest and lawful, and he has nothing to conceal from anyone, even our law enforcement.
