The uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party was allegedly founded to obstruct the governing party’s campaign in advance of the May 29 elections, according to ANC Secretary General Fikile Mbalula.

Hours after the court decided in favor of the uMkhonto weSizwe Party, enabling it to keep using the name and emblem of the ANC’s dissolved military wing, Mbalula spoke to the media on Monday.

By adopting a name and emblem that resembled the ANC’s defunct military wing, the MK party, according to the ruling party, violated the Trademarks Act.

Mbalula claims that the party’s legacy, trademarks, and insignia were taken by the MK Party.

He continued by saying that the MK Party only intends to cause disruption, not to rule.

“This is a scheme intended to upset the ANC for Zuma’s benefit, not for any other reason. It is not a political party.

“It is disguised as a radical form of things to happen, that Ramaphosa and the ANC have not done,” Mbalula says.

Mbalula claims that President Cyril Ramaphosa is leading the ANC to greater growth.

“This organization has improved, and going forward, it will only get better and healthier.

“In terms of policy, direction, certainty, leading people with integrity, that is what is going to happen with the ANC going forward, because the ANC has adopted a renewal programme,” Mbalula states.
