The Outcome of the Dstv Premiership Season is Yet Uncertain

The PSL was forced to reschedule two games due to Mamelodi Sundowns’ packed fixture calendar, and five more games were left unfinished as the season approached its final eight weeks.

The away league match between Sundowns and Cape Town Spurs is now scheduled for April 9 rather than April 6.

Next, the home game versus Richards Bay has been moved from April 3 to April 2, a day earlier.

This will give Sundowns time to get ready for the second leg of their Champions League quarterfinal matchup with Yanga, which is scheduled for April 5 at 20h00 at Loftus Versfeld under the lights.

The Moroka Swallows game in Dobsonville on April 16 has been scheduled. Following that, Sundowns will play nine more league games.

The PSL has also temporarily removed The Brazilians’ domestic schedule from the weekends of April 19–20 and April 26–27 in preparation for their Champions League semifinal matchups on those dates.

Sundowns’ league match against Sekhukhune United on April 27 will have to be moved to April 23 if they advance to the Champions League semifinals.

Between the first and second legs of the Champions League semifinals, which, should they advance, will be contested against ASEC Mimosa or Esperance, is April 23.

Sundowns will next play two back-to-back games against Royal AM on May 7 and May 11 before traveling to Kaizer Chiefs on April 30.

By then, Sundowns will still have five league games to play, and it is still unclear how those matches would fit into the schedule.

This is because, should Sundowns go to the Champions League final, the PSL will face an even greater challenge.

The PSL had scheduled May 18 and May 25 for the final two league rounds, when all 16 teams would play on the same day and at the same kickoff time. CAF has reserved those dates for the championship match.

If Sundowns advances to the Nedbank Cup final, which is scheduled for June 1, things can become much more difficult.

Sundowns, who are in the Nedbank Cup last eight, will take on University of Pretoria at Lucas Moripe Stadium on April 12.

If they advance, the semi-finals are scheduled for May 4–5.

June 3–11 is the next FIFA calendar week.

In the event that Sundowns advances to the Nedbank Cup and Champions League finals, five league games will be suspended, which will have an impact on the entire league.
