The schedule for Load Shedding in Cape Town

In reaction to Eskom’s most recent declaration, the City of Cape Town modified its load-shedding timetable.

Eskom begged people to cut back on demand by turning off non-essential appliances, such as pool pumps and geysers, especially between 17:00 and 21:00.

ESKOM: What is it?

The public utility Eskom provides power in South Africa. Originally known as the Electricity Supply Commission, it was founded in 1923. In terms of generation capacity and sales, the utility was among the top utilities in the world and is the biggest producer of energy in Africa. It is the biggest state-owned company in South Africa.

What Power Stations are Operational for ESKOM

Several notable power plants are managed by the power company, including the only nuclear power plant in Africa, the Koeberg Nuclear Power Station in the Western Cape, the Kendal Power Station in Mpumalanga, the Kusile Power Station in Witbank, and the Matimba Power Stations and Medupi Power Station in Lephalale.

In the meantime, the City of Cape Town modified its plans in response to the Eskom declaration.

  • A spare light or headlamp should always be in your car in case there is a power outage and you need to get home at night.
  • The majority of smartphones are equipped with flashlight or torch apps, which are useful in case of unplanned power outages.
  • Charge your tablet, laptop, and phone: When the power is supposed to go out, make sure your laptop, phone, and tablet are completely charged. Then, as soon as the power comes back on, quickly recharge them.
  • Additionally, have a power bank or other emergency phone charger close hand in case of prolonged power outages.
  • Gas for cooking and lighting: Purchase a small LP gas bottle and lamp for cooking and lighting. This will allow you to boil water and provide excellent illumination for a big area.
