Sibusiso Kula, an ANC member of parliament accused of murder, was granted bail; the State has requested that the court reverse this decision.

It informed the Klerksdorp High Court on Tuesday that Kula had violated his bail requirement by attempting to influence witnesses to alter the testimony that they had given to the State.

Currently, Kula is Free on an R50,000 Bail

The politician was taken into custody in January 2023 on suspicion of killing his wife, Jennifer Kula, 31, whose body was discovered at her Kanana Township house in November 2022.

The court denied Kula’s earlier request to have the case removed from the record.

Dalton Tshinyani, the advocate for the North West NPA, announced that the State would show a video purportedly showing him seeing a police officer in the detention cells.

“We will also hand in statements of the witnesses whom were alleging that the accused was trying to influence them not to testify against him, also we have the statement of the police officer who was stationed at the holding cells, because he visited our witnesses at the holding cells.”

“The investigating officer will continue to testify and we will play the video from the holding cells, because we want to prove that it was him who visited the witnesses.”

Kula faces accusations of murder, thwarting the administration of justice, breaking the Domestic Violence Act, fabricating statements and affidavits, and conspiring with another individual to facilitate or enable the act of murder.
