SAFA Thabo Mofutsanyana Region concludes successful U15 Girls Inter-LFA League

On Sunday, March 24, 2024, the SAFA – Free State region of Thabo Mofutsanyana wrapped up the inaugural U15 Girls Inter-LFA League.

Launched in late 2017 as part of the Technical Development Scheme initiative, the U15 Girls Inter-LFA League was tested in four SAFA zones around the nation.

The league lasted four months, and the Thabo Mofutsanyana region was the first to finish it with a feast at Goble Park Stadium in Bethlehem for its six Local Football Associations (LFA). All six LFAs performed during the festival’s morning, and a final was hosted at the conclusion of the day. The pilot program’s eventual winners were Nketoana LFA.

Regional President Elizabeth De Koker told www.safa.net that this campaign has given young girls in her area a lot of hope and that more initiatives like this should be undertaken. We are ecstatic about everything that has happened to us in the last four months. De Koker stated, “Our young girls had regular matches, stayed out of trouble, and they even got to meet U17 Women’s National Team coach Simphiwe Dludlu today.”

As Dludlu begins to reassemble her team, she was impressed by some of the girls she observed during the event.

“The football we witnessed here has greatly impressed me. I think I’ve found at least ten players that can improve our football team,” Dludlu stated.
