Threateners of Violence Will be Taken Into Custody: Ramaphosa

In response to threats of violence made by MK supporters in the event that their party is not represented on the voting paper, President Cyril Ramaphosa declares that all individuals making such threats will be placed under custody.

Speaking to the media during the Presidential Imbizo, he was in Mpumalanga at the time.

The party, which is connected to former president Jacob Zuma, has until tomorrow to turn in its candidate lists, deposits, and the necessary number of signatures to the IEC in order to be eligible to run in the elections. The ANC’s lawsuit against it regarding the use of MK as its own trademark is about to get a judgement, which presents additional challenge.

“We’ve been hearing that, and I just want to make it clear that anyone threatening to cause any kind of disturbance will be investigated and taken into custody.”

“Those are the adversaries of democracy. If you have objections about any decision made by the government, president, ministers, or even courts, there are channels through which you can pursue your concerns. Therefore, anyone who claims that there will be violence if their complaints are not addressed may be assured that they will be investigated and taken into custody, Ramaphosa continued.
