Dr. Phophi Ramathuba, the MEC for Health in Limpopo, will oversee the repatriation of the 45 individuals died in a bus accident over Easter on Tuesday.

Forty-five inhabitants of Botswana lost their lives in an accident on the R518 Mmamatlakala road in Mokopane.

The bus carrying forty-five worshippers from Botswana crashed off the bridge and caught fire while it was traveling to St. Engenas Zion Cristian Church (ZCC) for an Easter pilgrimage to Moria outside of Polokwane.

The only one who lived was eight years old.

In order to recover and positively identify the human remains through the DNA process, a committed multidisciplinary team comprising the police’s victim identification unit, the Biology Section of the Forensic Science Laboratory Unit, Forensic Pathology Services, and their Botswana counterparts worked, according to MEC spokesperson Thilivhali Muavha.

For the team, it has been a protracted, exhausting, and equally traumatic trip. Nonetheless, the knowledge that the families will at last get closure gives us peace.”

Mid-April saw visits to the crash site by Presidents Mokgweetsi Masisi of Botswana and Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa.
