The Death of the Boys Has Left the Community in Shock

According to early investigations, five-year-old Konke Nobhokisi and six-year-old Inikile Mbuyazwe were left in the care of Konke’s adult sibling, according to police spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu.

“Konke’s mother made inquiries after arriving home at 16:00 and not seeing the kids.

“The boys were found dead in a steel trunk at around 17:00 after a search for them.” stated Colonel Priscilla Naidu.

She noted that although the specifics of the incident are still being looked into, it’s likely that the trunk’s lid closed when they entered. The boys live next door to each other. The inquest docket, according to Naidu, was opened.

“It is believed that the lid was closed when they entered the trunk.”

Major General Phumzile Cetyana, in the meantime, exhorts all guardians and parents to be watchful and considerate of the curiosity and innocence of their children.

Although it is in their nature to explore and play, it is our duty as adults to always make sure they are safe.

“We kindly request that parents and guardians examine the safety precautions in their homes, such as locking up any potentially dangerous areas and keeping a close eye on their kids, especially when they’re playing.”

In the meantime, earlier this week, a three-year-old boy’s body was discovered on Monday in the boot of a car that was parked in a mechanic’s yard.

Colonel Cherelle Ehlers, the spokesman for the Northern Cape police, stated that on March 16 at around 14:30, the parents of the three-year-old kid and a four-year-old boy were reported missing.

“The community and the SAPS started a search right away. The youngsters were discovered on March 18 at about 15:00 in the car’s boot.

According to Ehlers, “The four-year-old boy was taken to the hospital, and the three-year-old boy was deceased.”

The four-year-old was hurried to the hospital after the three-year-old boy passed away.

She said that an inquest into the three-year-old’s death had been initiated by the police.

“An investigation is being conducted to determine the toddler’s cause of death and the circumstances surrounding the incident.
