Unpredictable Rainfall in KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga, May Cause Flooding

Impact-Oriented Alerts

  • Orange Level 5 Warning: Over the extreme north-eastern parts of KwaZulu-Natal and the extreme southern Lowveld of Mpumalanga, disruptive rain is expected to cause major traffic disruption due to major roads being closed or flooded, damage to property and infrastructure, danger to life, and flooding of roads and settlements.
  • Yellow Level 2 Warning: Roads crossing low-water bridges, difficult driving conditions, and localized flooding of vulnerable formal and informal settlements and roads are expected over the Mpumalanga Lowveld and escarpment, as well as the northeastern interior of KwaZulu-Natal.
  • Yellow Level 2 Warning: Parts of the Garden Route, Overberg, Cape Winelands, Central Karoo, and the southern portions of the Namakwa District of the Northern Cape are expected to experience severe thunderstorms that could cause localized flooding of vulnerable roads, low-lying areas, and bridges.
  • Level 2 Yellow Warning: Damage Over the interior of the Western Cape, Central Karoo of the Western Cape, and the interior of the Northern Cape, winds that will make driving hazardous are predicted.
  • Level 1 Yellow Warning: Damage It is anticipated that there will be winds and waves offshore between Port Alfred and Port Edward that will cause small vessels to take on water and make maritime navigation challenging.
