Vincent Smith, a Former ANC MP, Has Been Allowed Time to Settle the Legal Expenses Dispute in His Corruption Case.

ANC MP Vincent Smith

In order for Vincent Smith, a former member of Parliament for the African National Congress (ANC), to finalize arrangements for the payment of his legal bills, the South Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg has postponed the case against him for corruption.

The matter had been postponed multiple times, according to Judge Mohamed Ismail, who ruled this postponement to be final.

Smith is accused of both fraud and violating the Prevention and Combating of Corrupt Activities Act.

According to Henry Mamothame, a spokesman for the Investigating Directorate, or Hawks, Smith was first accused alongside former Bosasa COO Angelo Agrizzi; however, due to Agrizzi’s poor health, their cases were split.

In addition to being charged with corruption in his own capacity, Smith is also being prosecuted in his role as Euroblitz 48’s only director and shareholder.

His failure to report to the registrar of parliamentary members’ interest the satisfaction he obtained from Bosasa as a result of the alleged corrupt conduct he, Euroblitz 48, and Agrizzi are accused of is the source of his fraud allegations.

Mamothame said, “He further neglected to disclose the taxable income of Euroblitz between March 2009 and July 2018, purportedly totaling R28 million.”

Smith turned himself in to the police and was given R30,000 bail.

It is anticipated that he will emerge once more on July 30, 2024.

In a prior testimony before the Commission of Inquiry into State Capture, Agrizzi stated that cars were reserved for Smith’s daughter.

At Smith’s Roodepoort residence, the company also installed CCTV and electric gates to enable off-site monitoring, which was valued at roughly R200,000.

Following discoveries at the inquiry, which was presided over by Justice Raymond Zondo, one of the commission’s investigators further stated in testimony that Smith had taken out part of the security equipment that Bosasa had installed in his home.
