Vusi Nova Biography, Music Achievement and More

It is unnecessary to introduce Vusumuzi Nongxa, commonly known as Vusi Nova. He’s a megastar from South Africa with several accolades and number-one hits. I Would Rather Go Blind, the lead track from his 2013 debut studio album Walk Into Light, became an immediate hit and provided Vusi Nova with a much-needed big break. Since then, he hasn’t turned around. Seize the opportunity to hear him perform live!

About Vusi Nova

At the age of 14, Vusi Nova left his birthplace in New Brighton Township, Port Elizabeth, to pursue his musical career in Johannesburg in 1998. Before moving back home with his mother, Vusi’s enormous family—which consisted of fifteen people—shared a room at his grandmother’s home. Vusi tells this tale in his most recent Podcast and Chill episode with MacG. His mother was a huge supporter of his musical goals and the one who purchased his first microphone.

Music Background of Vusi Nova

2009 saw the release of Vusi Nova’s debut album, Ndimfumene, following his signing of his first record contract with EMI Records. He started taking voice lessons with RJ Benjamin in 2010 and eventually met Oskido, who signed him to Kalawa Jazmee. After joining Muthaland Entertainment in 2012, Vusi Nova started recording his first studio album.

I Would Rather Go Blind, the lead track from his 2013 debut studio album Walk Into Light, became an immediate hit and provided Vusi Nova with the much-needed big break. Did It For Love, the follow-up album, was released in December 2014 and received a nomination for the 21st South African Music Awards’ Best R&B/Soul/Reggae Album category.

His song Thandiwe, which was released in early 2016 as the lead single from his upcoming album, topped South African radio rankings and climbed at number one on the Most Shazamed song list in Lesotho. His third studio album, Naninina, was widely praised when it was released in July 2016 and went on to win numerous prizes at the Metro FM Awards and the 23rd South African Music Awards.

Manyan-nyan, his fourth studio album, was released in 2018 and went gold in South Africa. It was nominated for Album of the Year and Best AfroPop Album at the SAMA Awards and won Best Engineered Album of the Year. Asphelelanga (ft. Jessica Mlangeni), the album’s smash hit, was a tribute to all the musicians who had come before them. Still one of Vusi Nova’s most popular songs is this one.

The gospel single Yibanathi (ft. Dumi Mkokstad) from his 2021 album NguMama, which was published around the conclusion of the COVID-19 pandemic, offered a lot of people hope. At the 27th South African Music Awards, the album took home the Best Afro pop Album trophy. Vusi Nova introduced Snova, his alter persona, in the same year. Shuku Shuku, an AmaPiano song by Snova, peaked at No. 1 on the South African Radio Charts after debuting at No. 3; this demonstrated Vusi’s versatility as an artist by embracing the popular AmaPiano style.

Vusi Nova released an EP in September 2022 called Ndikhethiwe (I was chosen). It was a very personal album with songs that touched on difficult life issues. For example, in Ndincede, he prays for God to save him from alcoholism and addresses his addiction to alcohol; in Makhelwane, he talks about jealous neighbors and how people can destroy you. An exquisite and poignant rendition of Prince’s Purple Rain serves as the EP’s final track. Fans of Vusi Nova reacted well to the EP, and the media gave it excellent reviews.
