World Cup Fraud Case is Now Scheduled for July

World Cup fraud case postponed to July

Pre-trial conferences have been scheduled in relation to the World Cup tender fraud case involving former KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner Mmamonnye Ngobeni and eight other individuals.

Ngobeni, businessman Thoshan Panday, and former police officers Ashwin Narainpersad and Navin Madhoe are all accused of 275 counts of money laundering, corruption, fraud, racketeering, and forgery totaling R47 million.

In order to secure housing for police during the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, it is said that the Public Finance Management Act was disregarded between March 2009 and April 2010.

“Through their affiliation with entities which were used to score lucrative contracts from SAPS, the state alleges Panday’s family was party to a common purpose with Toshan and others to defraud SAPS,” Investigative Directorate spokesperson Henry Mamothame stated.

“The policemen who are accused in this matter face accusations of colluding with Panday to receive contracts from the KZN police for an amount of over R47,3 million in fraudulent and irregular tender procedures.”

The Durban High Court has rescheduled the case for July 25.
