Xola Mlambo Shares Experiences With Being Unemployed.

Xola Mlambo, a seasoned PSL midfielder, has been candid about the difficulties South African jobless footballers confront.

Mlambo was without a club when he abruptly parted company with TS Galaxy at the start of the current season. Prior to the 2022–2023 season, he was linked to the Rockets as a free agent following his release from AmaZulu FC.

The 32-year-old made 25 appearances across all competitions while at Galaxy and scored one goal.

The midfield player has formerly played for Chippa United, Orlando Pirates, and the now-defunct Bidvest Wits.

Considering that he hasn’t retired, Mlambo claims it’s quite challenging to remain without a club.

He went on to say that in order to maintain one’s mental health, someone in this terrible circumstance needs significant support.

“It’s not an easy one, to be honest, when you’re used to getting paid every month regardless of what you do on the side, and now you’re not,” Mlambo said.

Making ensuring your mental health is intact is crucial, and it’s made simpler with support. If you’re the breadwinner and you find yourself in this circumstance, it can be challenging. I’m speaking from both a financial and emotional standpoint.

“Unemployment does have an influence and consequences of its own. However, it gets simpler when you surround yourself with positive people that support you in improving your situation.

Mlambo went on to say that some people might make poor decisions and find themselves in challenging circumstances if they don’t have help.

“Lack of work has a severe negative impact on people; it can lead to despair and drug and alcohol addiction. All I want is for someone who is experiencing what I am to receive the appropriate assistance. They can’t end up in predicaments from which they are unable to escape,” he continued.
