Zulu King Demands Peace Ahead of Election

Zulu King calls for peace ahead of polls

The violence, which has resulted in the deaths of multiple traditional leaders, is damaging the province’s reputation, according to King Misuzulu.  In anticipation of the forthcoming general elections that are set to take place in May, KwaZulu-Natal’s Zulu King, Misuzulu kaZwelithini, has urged for political tolerance in the region.

Speaking to the KZN Provincial Legislature on Tuesday at the provincial parliament’s opening at Pietermaritzburg’s Oval Cricket Stadium, King Misuzulu kaZwelithini said that the province’s reputation was being damaged by the rising violence that has killed several traditional leaders.

“The assassinations of council members have to end right away. The slaughter of Amakhosi ought to end immediately, as well as all other acts of violence. That’s the royal decree I’m announcing today.

As per the most recent crime statistics, the KZN province records approximately 18 homicides every day. The government was asked by King Misuzulu kaZwelithini to step up its efforts to combat crime.

He urged law enforcement to apprehend, convict, and imprison all of the criminals who were damaging the reputation of our lovely province.

The Zulu King, who took office in 2021 when his father, King Goodwill kaZwelithini, passed away, is up against resistance from some members of the Zulu Royal Family, who won’t acknowledge him.

The Gauteng High Court declared in December that there were irregularities in the procedure that resulted in King Misuzulu kaZwelithini’s nomination and eventual recognition by President Cyril Ramaphosa.

After that, the court gave Ramaphosa an order to form a panel to investigate whether Zulu customs were followed at the time of King Misuzulu kaZwelithini’s nomination.

The President’s decision to challenge the court’s verdict, however, temporarily rendered unenforceable the court’s decision to overturn Ramaphosa’s recognition of King Misuzulu kaZwelithini as the Zulu nation’s legal monarch.

The King announced that the Zulu Royal Family was encountering difficulties to MPLs and the about 2000 guests that attended the KZN Legislature opening.

Premier Nomusa Dube-Ncube of KZN will deliver the State of the Province Address (Sopa) on Wednesday morning at the same location, Oval Cricket Stadium, thanks to the King’s speech, which was a part of the Legislature’s two-day event.
