During a memorial service for six ladies from the uMkhonto Wesizwe Party (MK) who perished in a car accident last month, an enraged Jacob Zuma threatened to dismiss disobedient party members.

Wembezi Stadium in the UThukela District served as the site of the commemoration on Saturday.

When some MK members interrupted speeches by yelling and jeering at specific leaders who were providing support to the women’s families, the former president lost his cool.

Taking the platform, Zuma threatened the unruly members, threatening to terminate them there for ruining the party.

“As MK, we want to assist in guiding the nation,” we are telling the public. But how can we earn people’s trust if we act badly, yelling and swearing in public? I could fire all of you right now for bringing dishonor to the organization—this is a disgrace,” Zuma declared.

Other MK leaders vented their frustrations at the memorial as well. Some leaders have been criticized by former MK Youth Leader Bonginkosi Khanyile for attempting to manipulate the Youth League for their personal gain.

He said that certain officials were bringing in young members to hotels in order to sway them with viewpoints that would cause discord within the party.

Khanyile remarked, “I want to name these people, but I won’t do it out of respect for ubaba Jacob Zuma.”

Khanyile also claimed that certain people prevent anyone attempting to meet with Zuma, making it difficult for MK leaders to speak with him. He claimed that there has long been a problem with this.

Previous reports indicated that similar meddling prevented even Zuma’s legal team from meeting with him.

Since the six MK women were charred beyond recognition in the accident, the funeral has not yet been scheduled while DNA tests are being completed.
