Gauteng Police Are "Prepared" to Guarantee a Peaceful, Free Election

The Gauteng police have stated that they are prepared to keep the province’s election period peaceful.

To guarantee proper security, law enforcement personnel will be deployed in order to do this.

The police, according to Nontsikelelo Sisulu, Head of Gauteng Community Safety, will escort votes to the more than 2000 polling places spread across the province.

Sisulu gave a Thursday morning briefing to the media regarding their readiness.

“We do need to make sure that security is at an elevated level, and we acknowledged that Gauteng has the biggest voter turnout; hence, all law enforcement tiers would require an increase in force.

“It is predicted that about 27.79 million people will participate in the next elections. This is the largest number since South Africa’s democratization began.”

Sisulu stated that the province has 47 facilities where ballot papers are kept for storage.

“Law enforcement agencies are tasked with escorting ballot papers from these warehouses to the voting stations in all district voting stations.”

On May 29, South Africans will cast their ballots.
